Welcome to the Hooked and Locked CAL 2021 – Log Cabin (HAL CAL 2021) <Edit May 3 2021: The pattern is  no longer available for free. You can buy it from my Ravelry shop (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/the-craftsteachers-ravelry-store).  The parts for the tutorials are still available.> After the previous two CALs of the fall of 2018 and spring of 2020, it was about time for a new CAL. Interwoven crochet again, but just a little bit different this time. We will be making a blanket in the Log Cabin technique, where blocks are crocheted together right away in a ‘circular’ way. What’s special about this log cabin technique,Read More →

What happened lately It looks a bit quiet on my side, and that is correct, that is, publicly. My husband and I are having quite a challenging year. We sold our house and bought another one, and this all in Corona-times. We moved in two steps from the western side to the eastern side of this country. Moving is one of the most stressful activities in a persons life anyway, but add to this a child that became quite ill (and I’m thankful to tell she completely recovered), and Corona, that made a lot of things go down, well, I guess you will have anRead More →

The HAL CAL 2018 on repeat, now in mosaic crochet Yep, you’re reading this correctly! I will do the HAL CAL of 2018 again. I hope the fans of interwoven crochet will not be too disappointed, because this is not a new design, but because it is for many of us a difficult and even hard time, and there are also people that find interwoven crochet difficult to do, I decided to do this. A couple of months ago I added more functionality to my software, so that I can create mosaic crochet pattern charts and descriptions from my interwoven crochet designs. I was planningRead More →

Long-awaited, but here it is! It took quite some time, and I admit I have hesitated if I would do this, but decided that I will!!! A new CAL! I got inspired, and thought it should be doable, despite the super busy period I’m in personally. No worries, it is all very positive, but it takes a lot of my time and energy. And I’m really wanting to do it! Because honestly, I became a little ‘crochet tired’. I have always been a woman with lots of crafting hobbies, and I like to switch between things. I also just wanted to spend more time withRead More →

There will be worked on this page, but you will find already enough information. Follow the links on this page, so you will find all the information you need. If you have never done interwoven or locking crochet, you can best start with the video tutorials in this playlist: Interwoven or locking crochet. With these videos you can get acquainted with this technique in a simple way. You can first focus on crocheting the 2 filet crochet layers. In these videos I use extra double crochets (that you do not normally do!) for the lower border, the sides and the top border in color 1, andRead More →

Last week the last pattern of the blanket Is was so much fun again to see several members finished their blanket and showed their picture of it. Or of their table runner or shawl they made of it. So great! So please continue to share your pictures on facebook. Like mij husband said yesterday when I was scrolling through the group: ‘do you not find it a strange idea that your blanket is now in others people homes on the couch or on the bed?’. Yes, that still feels a little bit strange to me, but I also like it very much. Also an honorRead More →

What an adventure! Oh my, what an adventure this has been! I really did not expect this to become such a huge success. I am still happy with that every single day! Really! Of course I hoped it would be picked up when I was thinking about doing a CAL about the interwoven or locking crochet technique, but that it would become such a success, and that I would get so much positive response, I absolutely didn’t expect that to happen. Message of this post: ‘Wow! This makes me blush! I’ts 14:35 pm and I already have 56 members. I really didn’t expect that. ThankRead More →

A nice and simple surrounding border When you’ve finished crocheting row 160a, do not cut off the yarn of color 1. The thread of color 2 can be cut off and you can darn in the end. We will now make a border of single crochets around the entire blanket with color 1, and we will only work into the outer border. This will make that the blanket gets a nice straigth edge. DThe border stitches of color 2 do not need finishing. They look good already because of the weaving through because of how the pattern was designed. Important! Take a smaller hook thanRead More →
