This is a really fun project with all sorts of design possibilities! The great thing about this technique is that you only need to work with 1 color at a time to still get a colorful result. You can simply crochet square blocks, but there are even more possibilities that you can easily apply yourself. Think of them in advance using the design sheets that I added to the pattern, but also while you are crocheting, so ‘on the go’. The only thing you need to keep an eye on is the amount of yarn you have. But you can also use it really well to use up your leftover yarn!
I also have a really nice method for making the bottom and top edges. See below for the photos.

This is the shawl I crocheted with chenille yarn. Only the squares are used here, which I have called design variation 1 for convenience. In the first video I show the basic technique for horizontal entrelac crochet. Note that the first block was made in the course video to learn how to make the Tunisian crochet stitch or regular stitch.

This is an example I crocheted that includes variations 2 and 3. Variation 2 is varying the height and width of the blocks, variation 3 is ‘merging’ the blocks, the so-called inverted L-shape. I also show this extensively in the second video.
In this video I also show the design sheets and how to use them so you can create your own designs.

This is an example I crocheted that includes variations 4 and 5. Variation 4 is making the L-shape. With variation 5, which is a combination of the techniques, you can make stairs, which you can crochet ‘thick’, but also very narrow. The photo shows some possibilities that you can achieve. These two are shown in the third video.
In the second and third video I show you how to make these beautiful borders on the top and bottom of the work. I didn’t make any side borders. I liked the side borders of my shawl and my swatches enough, and I didn’t really want to ‘frame’ the pattern! The top and bottom border is a must for Tunisian crochet to prevent curling, so I chose a simple border that ‘leaves the pattern in its value’.

The pattern
The pattern is available for a small fee on Ravelry. It includes information for making the shawl, plus tips for using different yarns, and instructions for special considerations for making the variations and using the design sheets. The design sheets are also included as a download with the pattern. I know you can figure it out without buying the pattern, but consider it as a support for my work :-).
