This is part 2 about surface crochet. In my previous post, with the accompanying video, I showed how to do straight lines and which options you have doing that. You can also work in diagonal lines. That’s just a straight line too of course, but slanted 🙂 , so it probably won’t suprise you that this works much the same as what you saw me do in the previous video 🙂 . I do pay a bit more attention in this video on how to exactly count your stitches.  You could use that for the straight lines also, by the way. I also show howRead More →

In my previous post I showed a triangular shawl in filet crochet. I will reveal a little bit: I embellished it with surface crochet. I will keep it a secret for a short while how it looks  , because I have to make some video’s about that. So please be patient for a little while, they will come soon! But I do have a video for you about how to do surface crochet on an open background in straight lines. You have several possibilities how to do that. And that is what I will show you in the video I published today. Anchored to the background,Read More →

It is very fashionable at the moment: filet crochet. Why that happens is always something I wonder about, what exactly is that trigger that makes people embrace it all of the sudden?  It looks like someone starts with it, and other people suddenly think: ‘Oh, but that was fun too, let me do that again’. I really like it when a technique, that seems to be ‘forgotten’ for a while, gets back into the spotlight. I did a lot of filet crochet back in the days, especially large pieces with beautiful motifs. In the pre-internet times, when we just bought a Burda-magazine in the storeRead More →

Today I published a new crochet video. This time it’s about a simple wave pattern that is very suitable for beginners. I use a lot of stitchmarkers for it, so it actually cannot go wrong with this pattern. You hardly have to think doing this. If you consistently use the stitchmarkers as I show you, and count the stitches each time, or as often as you want, then this shouldn’t have to be a problem at all. The used stitches are very simple also: chains, double crochets (US) and double crochet 2 together. That’s all.  I’ve again made a written tutorial with it, you canRead More →

In my previous post I shared the series of video’s for making the honeycomb brioche stitch. But you can also make that stitch in a different way, a way I found in old knitting books. And I like to try out things, so I wanted to see which way I preferred to do this. And I will be honest, I liked the method with the wraps better. But I could do the knit-one-below version, so I decided to record that way of doing this stitch also. Maybe you prefer to do it this way. Could be, couldn’t it? What is this knit-1-below stitch? Well, theRead More →

Hi you all 🙂 I published a video about a yarn review recently, and I mentioned I would also do a knitted scarf with it. I know, on this side of the world where I live spring is already here, but hey, it will be winter again, and maybe you live on the other side of the world, which will make this very timely 🙂 🙂 🙂 . So, here it is: the video’s I made for it, a tutorial of the honeycomb brioche stitch that I used for it, and the accompanying page here on the website, in case you like to have aRead More →

Do you also wonder sometimes how the color changes go in a ball of yarn with multiple colors? I do! Frequently! You can see these beautiful colors on top and at the bottom of the ball, but how changes one color into the next? Does it go gradually? Or just a big jump from one color into another? It’s not always clear. If you’re lucky there’s a picture on the band of the ball of a project that’s made with the specific yarn, so you can have an idea. And we’re lucky to have the internet nowadays, where you can perhaps find something, but it’sRead More →

It wasn’t really planned when I designed this shawl, a bit unexpected actually, but I now have my first officially published crochet pattern on this website. I designed patterns before I just used for myself, but this feels like my first official one. I made video’s of it, they are published on my YouTube channel (links at the end of this post), and I also made a tutorial page for it (see here). So have a lot of fun!  Read More →

For a while the last video in my pin loom weaving series! I will definitely be back with more, but I’m so into crochet and knitting at the moment, and making my own designs, that I want to do that first. Well, that’s what the Craftsteacher website and YouTube channel is all about: all kinds of crafts. I hope you enjoy a lot of different crafts too, it’s so fun to do something else now and then. At the moment I’m working on a lovely honeycomb shawl. And a crochet wrap with a simple wavy pattern. I made the video’s for them, and they areRead More →

What’s been happening Hi you all!!!! It maybe looks like there isn’t happening very much, but I’ve been working on some crochet and knitting projects, related to a yarn review. I had reasons to put part of it out on my Dutch channel with some priority, because I wanted to support my favorite yarn supplier (De Wolman). So that took some time that I couldn’t spend with you here. If you’re curious, you can go to my Dutch website (www.dehandwerkjuf.nl) or see the instructions for the crochet shawl I designed here. I didn’t translate it there yet, and it will be here on this websiteRead More →
