Pattern description

Abbreviations:Single crochet: sc
Chain: ch
Turning chain: tch
Number of stitches pattern:of your choice
Foundation:make a foundation chain with the desired number of stitches.
Row 1:Tch 1 and make the first sc in the 2nd stitch from the hook. Continue the row with the rest of the desired number of stitches.
Row 2:Tch 1 and make the first sc in the top of the last stitch of the previous row. Continue the row with the rest of the desired number of stitches.
Row 3 and next rows:Repeat row 2.

A nicer straight edge
The turning chain of row 2 and all subsequent rows can be skipped. Instead, after turning your work, pull the loop of your last stitch up a little before making the first single crochet.

Colors

In the variation below, the color is changed after 2 rows of single crochet. So in rows 3, 5, 7 etc.

In the variation below, the color is changed after 1 row of single crochet. So in rows 2, 3, 4, 5 etc. Tip: use an odd number of colors, then you can carry the colors up the edges and you don’t have to cut the yarn.
